The smiles on Kerry faces late on Sunday afternoon last and increasing levels of chat and discussion as we imminently approach Inter County Championships across all ages and codes highlight just how pivotal the GAA is to the Kingdom and its people.
Developing and providing the necessary facilities and coaching structures for our county and club teams have and continue to be of paramount importance to the County Board. To that end, the Win a House in Killarney draw has been front and center in Kerry’s fundraising plans over the past while. County Chairman Patrick O’Sullivan noted “The draw has been going very well and has received widespread support across the globe. Tickets have been bought in 23 countries, almost all counties and across all our clubs. Its success is highly important to maintaining Kerry’s position as a pre-eminent GAA county and we are continuing to ask all our supporters to support this draw, if they can at all “.
The draw continues to certainly appeal to a wide audience, but one sector in particular has provided important feedback over the past few months. Expanding further, County Vice Chairperson Liam Lynch said “Younger people are finding it more and more difficult to get on the housing ladder currently as supply scarcity, increasing rents and cost price rises are squeezing this group from every side. Since I came onto this committee a few months ago it has been very noticeable that this age group have increasingly asked if we could provide them with a split payment option for purchasing their €100 tickets, rather than doing so all from one pay cheque”.
Liam continued “We have researched this rapidly growing area of the financial market and are going to provide the required solution by working with HUMM, who are leaders in the sector. Large numbers of retailers in Ireland and across the globe work with HUMM already and we are pleased to provide this innovative and ground -breaking solution. To enable these young people to be in with a chance of winning this fabulous house in Killarney and pay over a number of months, we have decided to extend the draw to Tuesday July 26th (2 days after the All Ireland Football Final).
Patrick commented in conclusion “The success of this draw is of huge importance to us. The draw committee, club liaison people and our diaspora contacts have been driving the project on relentlessly and we would ask for everyone’s continued support “.
